In 2019, after years of restoration work, the historic part of the Dornburg ceramics workshop, complete with a newly-installed representative permanent exhibition, opened its doors as a museum. In 2020, the Bauhaus Workshop Museum Dornburg was awarded the Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Hessen-Thüringen sponsorship prize of 5,000 euros for its museum concept and realization.

The historic part of the Bauhaus Workshop Museum demonstrates its historically evolved use as a workshop and is one-of-a-kind: It is the only Bauhaus workshop that has been preserved in its original location. The workshop houses authentic pieces of equipment and furnishings from the Bauhaus period and the subsequent times when it continued to be used as a ceramics workshop. The clay preparation equipment dates back to 1922. The plaster wheel which was used by Bogler and Lindig to create plaster molds and models for the Bauhaus ceramics has also been preserved from the Bauhaus period. The complete work station – which has been documented through historic photographs – along with the pottery wheels and individual pieces of laboratory equipment from the Bauhaus period have also been preserved. The muffle furnace manufactured by the Leipzig company Padelt dates back to 1937. Among numerous individual objects, the museum also has an extensive collection of clay plaques which were used by well-known guests, friends and colleagues of the Körting family to immortalize themselves in a unique way.

The permanent exhibition presents the four workshop phases of the site: the Bauhaus pottery workshop, the workshop of the State College of Trades and Architecture Weimar as well as the workshops of Otto Lindig and the Körting family. Selected objects illustrate milestones in the history of ceramics in the 20th century. The extensive restoration of the building and construction of the integrated museum addition were made possible by funds from the “Städtebaulicher Denkmalschutz“ program (Protection of Urban Historic Monuments) and the town of Dornburg-Camburg. The permanent exhibition was financed by the Thuringian State Chancellery and the Federal Government for Culture and Media.
